Hello, thank you for visiting my website. My name is Joseph S. Upright. I am the President and Owner of Upright Consulting LLC. I have over 6 years experience in a variety of skills (please visit my skills page here). Through my education and real world experiences, I have found that I love building things with my mind and this field allows me to do just that. I am a very quick learner and I am very attentive to detail while still keeping the “bigger picture” in mind. I am self-motivated, reliable, and I truly believe that I can do anything that I put my mind to. When I accept a project, I take ownership of it and, if time allows, complete it above and beyond the specifications. I love education and I am very teachable. I have great communication skills and feel very comfortable conversing with employees on all levels (examples: Executive CIO/President through the End User).
In 2004 I made a decision that it was time to take a different approach and return to college. I had no idea what to study. I took some tests that said I would enjoy doing computer work and that I would be good at it. I decided to enroll in courses at Gateway Technical College in Kenosha, WI. Little did I know that this would become my future. I was a bit discouraged at first because this was something that I was not very familiar with and seemed difficult. I spoke with an instructor (Jim Buck) and decided to stay in the Computer Information Systems: Programmer/Analyst degree (it has since changed its’ name to Information Technology: Software Developer). This ended up being one of the best decisions of my life. The program was (and still is) geared specifically towards the IBM i with coursework in a variety of areas (AS400 Concepts; RPGIV/ILE beginner and advanced; CL; SQL; Websphere Application Server Programming, and Java). While at Gateway, I: completed an IBM Academic Initiative for the System i (IBM i) titled: IBM System i Innovation Challenge in 2007; became a member of the Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP) and attended a conference in Detroit, MI; began attending the Wisconsin Midrange Computer Professional Association (WMCPA); received a 16-credit Microcomputer Certificate; was nominated for the Student Ambassador; was on the college’s Dean’s List every semester; was on the National Dean’s List; became a member of Phi Theta Kappa (the 2-year International Honorary Fraternity); and graduated with a 4.0 GPA (with 79 credits) and President’s Honors. Since graduating from Gateway, I have also taken an advanced course: Administering the IBM i.
Other things I enjoy besides Information Technology & Information Systems include: my family-life (especially the anticipated arrival of my son Evan Joseph Upright in October), golf, football, working out, movies, and spending time with my dog Foxy.
I am available for the following types of engagements: contract (both long-term and short-term), contract-to-hire, consulting (both long-term and short-term), direct hire, part-time, full-time, fixed-term, and casual.
